Century Cinema is part of the Picturedrome Electric Theatre Company, a family run company with a small chain of independent cinemas.  We have a passion for providing excellent value for money combined with exceptional customer service for our clients.  We are looking for someone to join us as soon as possible to lead the team based in this historic building, which has recently been improved and now includes two screens and state of the art Sony 4K projection equipment.

The General Manager is responsible for leading the cinema team members in the efficient and profitable operation of the cinema, managing the day-to-day operations, maintaining high standards and conditions and fostering a positive environment in order to provide consistent, fast, efficient and friendly service for our customers.

The General Manager will work with the Senior Manager and Film Booker to arrange the timing and choice of shows and be responsible for the promotion of the cinema to increase ticket and merchandise sales.  The post holder will organise the recruitment and training of the team, deal with any staffing issues and ensure compliance with Health and Safety requirements.  The successful candidate will order and manage the merchandise stocks and work in the kiosk, selling tickets and refreshments as required. Training will be given in the use of the digital projection equipment, if necessary, as the post holder will be required to be competent in the use of the equipment.  In addition, the post holder will ensure the premises are maintained and cleaned to a high standard regularly throughout and between performances. This is a role where the post holder will have to roll up their sleeves and ‘muck in’ with the team!

The successful applicant will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work on their own initiative. Flexibility in hours is essential as the post holder will be required to be on-call and to cover team absences, where necessary.

The successful applicant is likely to have worked in a managerial or supervisory position in a sales-related or customer facing retail or leisure environment, with experience of working in a cinema.  Experience of working with stock systems and cash handling is essential, together with knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and the ability to use IT packages.  Experience of using social media is desirable. 

Given the layout of the cinema, the post holder must be able to climb stairs many times during the day and to lift boxes up to 15kg when dealing with stock.
